California Road Trip Day 2

Day 2:

I woke up very early since my body was still on Eastern Time. I headed down to the hotel gym and got in a quick 6 mile run (especially since I knew my running would be pretty low this week).

After a shower/Starbucks/breakfast we picked up our rental car in San Francisco and we were on our way. The plan for the day was to stop along the way as we made our way down to Cambria, where we were staying that night.

Our first stop was Pacifica, where we immediately couldn’t believe the beauty of the scenery around us. The ocean, rocks, mountains…simply amazing. We took quite a few pictures. Driving through several amazing towns, including Half Moon Bay and Moss Beach, we continued to make our way down the coast, stopping along the way to take pictures and take in the beauty of God’s creation. We found an awesome pizza place in Santa Cruz for lunch before making our way to Monterey and the 17 mile drive.

Easily one of our favorite parts of the trip was driving around the 17 mile drive through Pacific Grove along the Monterey Peninsula over to Pebble Beach Golf Course (which was absolutely unreal) and Carmel.

Next we made our way down to Big Sur, which was the number 1 thing on my bucket list for the trip. It was breathtaking. Big Sur offered spectacular views of the ocean and the cliffs. (Bixby Bridge was definitely the highlight of this part of the drive.)

As late afternoon arrived, we knew it would get dark soon, so we made our way down to our hotel in Cambria. Rachel found an awesome hotel right on the ocean. The hotel desk clerk suggested a great bar and grill in downtown Cambria (which is a super cute little town). We had a great dinner before heading back to our hotel for the night.

This was an amazing day driving along the beautiful coast and spending time talking, laughing and listening to great music with my wife. It is a day I will never forget.

California Road Trip Day 1

Day 1:

So I flew out of Atlanta early the first morning to head out to San Francisco to meet Rachel. (She had been working at a conference for work the last 6 days in San Fran.) Once I landed and got over to the hotel (in Union Square), we set off to find lunch (it was 4:30 Eastern Time so I was a “little” hungry). Rachel had heard about this awesome burger place (Super Duper Burgers), so we ended up eating there. It was crazy good. I wish I had gotten a picture of the place.

After lunch we grabbed the trolley (see picture above) and headed down to Fisherman’s Wharf (this was our second time in San Francisco so we didn’t feel pressure to hit up a bunch of things). We ended up walking around the Fisherman’s Wharf area for several hours. Saw the Golden Gate Bridge (from a distance), grabbed a milkshake from In-N-Out Burger (and a tshirt for me!), took pictures of the seals, and of course…hit up Ghirardelli.

We headed back to Union Square later that afternoon. We shopped a little before grabbing a quick dinner and heading back to the hotel. We had an early morning coming as we were going to pick up the rental car and start our drive down the coast!

California Road Trip

So last week, Rachel and I took a road trip from San Francisco to Anaheim in California. Over the next few days, I plan to share more pictures and thoughts about our trip down the Pacific Hwy. Below is just a sample of the scenery we took in last week. It was amazing!
